Local Volunteers Use Arts and Crafts to Bring Peace to Stearns County Inmates [VIDEO]

ST. CLOUD -- A simple act of kindness, can make all the difference in someone's life.

For the last ten years Gail Watercott and Phyllis Schindeldecker have been coming to the Stearns County Jail with open hearts and hundreds of rubber stamps.

"Some of them already know how to do card making," says Schindeldecker.

 

"The guys like it and in fact today they said, where were you?," says Watercott.

On the second Thursday of each month, inmates can create homemade cards to send to their families through the jails arts and crafts program.

"This is an hour where they decide to do something and of course some of them are very creative," says Schindeldecker.

This is one of several volunteer programs offered in the jail and the class always fills up.

"They just feel the love and that's important," says Watercott.

Watercott and Schindeldecker are two of roughly 130 volunteers who dedicate their time to remind us all that a single act of kindness can go a long way.
