Measles Not Letting Up - The Minnesota Count is Still Rising

It seems the outbreak of measles is starting to get serious. The number of people contracting it is still climbing. Here's the latest report.

By the time this is all over, the 1990 measles outbreak record could be smashed unfortunately.

When this outbreak first started, Minnesotans were worried for their newborn children who couldn’t get the vaccinations because they were too young. It’s to the point where everybody needs to realize they could contract it, vaccinated or not. Of course, getting vaccinated heavily reduces your chances of getting measles, and it’s highly recommended.

According to the Minnesota Dept. of Health, there are 3 people who’ve contracted measles who did receive the vaccine. Here is their run down of the statistics to date:

73 total cases:

64 in Hennepin County
3 in Ramsey County
4 in Crow Wing County
2 in Le Sueur County

Vaccination status:

68 confirmed to be unvaccinated (up 11 from 3 weeks ago)
2 had 1 dose of MMR (up 1 from 3 weeks ago)
3 had 2 doses of MMR (up 1 from 3 weeks ago)

Age:

70 in children (ages 0-17 years)
3 cases in adults

Race/Ethnicity:

60 are Somali Minnesotan
9 are White/Non-Hispanic
3 are White/Hispanic
1 is unknown or pending

Measles are nothing to take lightly. During the outbreak in 1990, there were 3 deaths tied to it. If you start to see these signs in your children, or yourself, be sure to contact your doctor right away.
