Over 300,000 Impacted By MnCHOICES Program Data Breach
The Minnesota Department of Health and Human Services is contacting Minnesotans after a data breach in one of its computer programs.
The state was made aware of a breach of the MnCHOICES program in November. MnCHOICES is a statewide program used by counties, Tribal Nations, and managed care facilities to help determine an applicants long-term care and support needs. According to the DHS website, certified assessors use the web-based program to determine program and service eligibility.

FEI Systems alerted the state that a “provider-associated” user had accessed the information from about 300,000 users in the system. The user no longer has access, and a forensic analysis has determined that the information gathered has not been misused in any way.
Affected Minnesotans will receive a letter from the Minnesota DHS letting them know about the breach and advising them to carefully check their medical statements for any suspicious charges.
The Minnesota DHS Office of Inspector General is continuing the investigation.
