New Poll Shows Flanagan Ahead Of Craig In Senate Primary
A new poll by North Carolina-based Public Policy Polling has shed some light on the Democratic Party’s race for the U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota vacated by Tina Smith. Current Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan is leading U.S. Congresswoman Angie Craig by 12 points – 40% to 28%, with 31% undecided.
The poll’s margin of error is +/- 3.7%.
The poll of 976 likely Democratic voters took place January 16th and 17th, with 66% of respondents over a cell phone and 33% on a landline. The pollsters report Craig’s votes on ICE-related issues over the past year are not sitting well. Her vote in favor of the Laken Riley Act and a congressional resolution that included language that expressed gratitude to ICE agents has soured her in the eyes of some voters.

Other takeaways from the survey:
- Flanagan’s likability: 70% view her favorably, 7% unfavorably, leading to a net approval of +63.
- Craig’s likability: 59% view her favorably, 12% unfavorably, leading to a net approval of +48.
- 86% believe the candidate’s stance on ICE and the Department of Homeland Security is important, and 70% believe ICE has “gone too far” in Minnesota.
- 62% of likely voters prefer a candidate that stands up for Democratic values, while 30% prefer someone who can work across the aisle.
We’re just a little more than a week away from the precinct caucuses across the state. That should give us a better view of both parties’ support for U.S. Senate ahead of the state nominating conventions this spring and summer.
