Minnesotans, If You Bought One Of These At Costco, Destroy It
Every once in awhile, you purchase a product only to be notified, in some fashion, that the product is faulty. Most often you are instructed to bring it back where you bought it or in some instances you are told to send it back to the manufacturer.
According to FOX 9 Costco sold tens of thousands of this certain snorkel and there is a recall due to the risk of the snorkel causing you to potentially drown and that warning comes from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The CPSC recommends that if you have one of these snorkels from Costco, stop using it and destroy it "immediately".
The agency explains that the snorkel is faulty and the snorkel's bottom purge valve "can leak, allowing unexpected water entry."
If you purchased this snorkel at Costco, which seems to be the only place in the U.S. that sold them, between February and July of this year the CPSC recommends that you simply destroy the snorkel.
According to the article, reports of the snorkel leaking has been reported thirteen times. No word on injuries or the extent of those injuries. You certainly don't want to be sucking water into your lungs when trying to enjoy some snorkeling.
They are making it relatively simple to get a free replacement from the manufacturer and they even give you instructions on how to destroy the faulty snorkel.

I realize that your Minnesota snorkeling days may be over for awhile, but just in case you are planning a trip to a warmer climate, you may want to check your snorkel and make sure it's not one that's being recalled.
