Minnesotans & U.S. Weird Food Habits Compared to Other Countries
Alright, we all have some quirky food habits. And odd food combinations. But as a whole, are we strange, or is it actually other people that are the strange, and we are the normal ones? What makes us strange, and they are the ones who are "doing it right"?
Here are some of the odd things that we tend to do while others think that we are a whole bucket of weird.
HOTDISH
Yes, we know. The rest of the entire world calls this a casserole. The hotdish can be anything, too by the way. It's not JUST goulash.
SPAM
This stuff comes in several varieties, and can be cooked and added to several dishes and it can be quite good. But that gelatin stuff (crud) can be a bit off putting for other people... actually it can be off putting to some of us too. Gross.
CRACKERS & CHEESE
What? Yeah, apparently other countries mostly use bread to eat cheese instead of a cracker. HUH?? I'm not weird, YOU are!
SNOW CONES
Well, what about Hawaiian Shave Ice? Apparently others think that you should just eat ice cream, sorbet or a gelato.
EASY/SQUEEZE CHEESE
Ok, I'm actually on board with this being weird. Cheese shouldn't be like this. Ish.
FLOATS
Like a root beer float. Putting ice cream on top of your soda is apparently strange. Nope! I contest! You haven't lived until you've had one of these delicious confections/drinks.
FLAVORED COFFEE
Looking at you, Starbucks. But here is the thing... Starbucks is everywhere. Do they not have a good ol' frappachino in other countries? Apparently coffee should just be coffee. Why add the flavors. (because it tastes better).
STRING OR SHREDDED MOZZ
Apparently mozzarella cheese should always be served fresh. Shred it yourself if you'd like, but buy it fresh, apparently.
There are a few other things on this list that I almost find offensive. Like "what's wrong with that?" You can check out the whole list from Buzzfeed here.
