There are SO MANY podcasts.  You can access them almost anywhere.  There's Spotify, iTunes, Pandora, just to name a few.  And it seems that almost everyone knows someone who is "starting a podcast".  So many subjects too.  I mean, you name it, there is probably a podcast with that subject matter to choose from. Some of the most popular ones are the "Joe Rogan Experience" and "True Crime".  They seem like the ones that are always at the top of the list.

Of course there are cooking one, parenting ones, dating experiences, and the list goes on.  A priest in Duluth, Father Mike Schmitz, thought he might as well create one too.  With the thought of reading the Bible in a year with some commentary around it.

“I went to Ascension, the publisher, and said would you be open to this idea of just me reading the Bible in the course of one year with a little bit of commentary? And they said we've been wanting this for years we just didn't know when or who,” he said.

So, even with that idea getting positive feedback, how popular would this podcast be?  Would people even want to listen to this?  Well, guess what- they do, apparently.

The podcast was launched beginning of the year, January 1.  And this is what happened:

“Somebody called me right about Jan. 2 and said, 'Your podcast is number one in the country!’ and I said, ‘You mean among religion?’ and they said, ‘No, it's number one!’”

And since then, it wasn't just a fleeting thing.  The podcast has remained in the top 5. So, people do want to hear the Bible being read to them, along with the commentary explaining the story.  Check out "Bible in a Year" .
