MOA Disney Store Will Close It’s Doors This Month
I don't know if it's just run it's course or maybe Disney is feeling the pain of being in a mall. Malls have been having a difficult time lately and with all the online shopping, it's pretty tough for some stores to justify shelling out that mall rent. I imagine Mall of America rent isn't cheap.
According to the Disney Store website, the last Disney Store in Minnesota is due to close sometime before May 19th. Disney Stores have been closing all around the country, so it's really not a big surprise.
The Disney Store has been a staple on the first floor of the Mall of America for over 20 years and is the last Disney Store in Minnesota after the closing of the store in the Ridgedale Mall in Minnetonka.
So, if you absolutely have to have some Disney swag, you can always order your Disney stuff online at ShopDisney.com or, if your budget allows for it, take a trip to Orlando, Florida's Disney World or Disney Land in Anaheim, California. At it's Peak, the Disney Stores numbered 749 stores Worldwide, with the very first one opening in Glendale, California in 1987.
Canada is due to lose all it's Disney Stores. They have 18 stores that will all be calling it quits. This will leave just a few Disney Stores in the United States, including the flagship store in Times Square in New York City.
In a statement released last month Disney said "Over the next year Disney will focus on providing a more seamless, personalized and franchise-focused ecommerce experience through its shopDisney platform which will be complemented by greater integration with Disney Parks apps and social media platforms."
Oh well, it was kind of a Mickey Mouse operation anyway. (sorry, couldn't resist)
