I realize that the 4th of July is a time to celebrate and what better way than to blow a bunch of stuff up?  There's something magical about watching the beauty of fireworks over the lake.

On the downside, it's not just the 4th that people are lighting off these explosives, it's at least 2 weeks before and a few weeks after.  A few firecrackers here and there is okay, I guess, but these freakin', almost military grade, concussion bombs that shake the house are really pushing it.

My dog, Astro, is scared to death of fireworks and tends to hide wherever he can. Last weekend, I found him hiding in the bathtub behind the shower curtain. i think this 4th, i'll try putting him in the bedroom with the air conditioner cranked and some great classic rock on the stereo.

I've been tempted, over the years, to politely ask the offenders if they could please muffle the sound a bit by shoving the fireworks up their ass before lighting them. Not much to ask, right?

Have a great 4th and be safe.
