Popular Brand of Firepits Recalled After Injuries Reported
Firepits are very popular. They are made now that can be used indoors, or out. And the places you can buy these have increased as well.
A popular place to buy these is from Amazon. But other sites are Wayfair, Sharper Image, and the Tik Tok Shop among many others. And of course, there are plenty of big box stores like Wal-Mart where these firepits can but bought as well.
Late last week the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of a popular firepit that can be used inside or outside.
The Colsen brand firepits have been recalled because there have been 31 cases of “flame jetting”, which has resulted in 19 people having to be treated at the hospital for burns.
Six of these cases required surgery and in two cases, the victims were burned on more than 40% of their bodies. To say these were serious injuries that required physical therapy, treatment at burn facilities, even loss of function or permeant disfigurement has been become a reality for some of these victims and is what has led to this recall.
If you’re not familiar with “flame jetting”, it occurs when refilling a fire pit and alcohol flames develop. They are often invisible and flames flashback to the container which can come in contact with the person holding the container.
There are seven different models of Colsen Firepits that range from 5 to 18 inches in size.
Over 89,000 of these have been sold since January 2020 and could have been sold either online or bought in person. If you have one of these units, you should stop using it immediately.
It is worth noting that you should not give these away or donate them, there is a federal law that does not allow recalled products to be resold, donated or given away.
