Parking can be such a pain.  There are so many activities and when it's super cold out, it would be great to already have a parking spot waiting for you ahead of time.  No hassle at all.

The Rivercentre parking ramp, which is usually where people tend to park for events at the Grand Casino Arena (formerly the Xcel), does not require event goers to make a reservation in the ramp.  BUT it is highly recommended that you do reserve a spot.

There are some definite advantages to reserving a spot in the Rivercentre ramp

Use apps like ParkWhiz or SpotHero to find and pay for your spot in advance, getting a mobile pass/barcode.  That way you have a spot saved for you.  You can also pay ahead through those apps. Besides, pre-paying can possibly save you up to 50% on what you would have to pay if you just took your chances and showed up at the ramp before the show.  Also - when there is a super busy event, saving a spot ahead of time really alleviates the headache of trying to find a spot.

The Option to Pay and Find a Spot When You Get There is Always Open

This is definitely an option, but if there is a busy event, you might not get a spot, and it's expensive if you do.  You can pay when you get there on a first come, first served basis.  You can use one of the apps mentioned above, or there are some kiosks around the ramp to pay that way.  There is a license plate scanner when you enter the parking garage, so that's how they track you and make sure you have paid the $20-$30 to park there.  See?  Expensive

OVERSIZED OR ELECTRIC CARS - WHERE TO PARK

The parking ramp does make accomodations for a specialty vehicle such as oversized or if you have an electric car.  If you have an oversized vehicle, you do need to make a reservation at least 48 hours in advance.  Spots are limited for those.  If you have an electric car, thera are charging stations available.  Those charging stations are available on a first come first served basis.  Rate is $3 for 8 hours of charging.
