ST. CLOUD -- A men's soccer player at St. Cloud State University has signed a professional contract.

Freshman midfielder Emmanuel Iwe is now a member of Minnesota United.

He'll play for MNUFC2 in a player development league. It is similar to the minor leagues in baseball and hockey.

Iwe is a graduate of St. Louis Park high school.

He played over 1300 minutes at St. Cloud State and finished the year with six goals and four assists.

Iwe becomes the first Minnesota native to be signed by Minnesota United.

MLS NEXT Pro - the league Iwe will be playing in with his new team - will kick off its inaugural season later this month, one month after Major League Soccer action starts, and see its season culminate in postseason action in September.

Minnesota United will play its home opener on April 3rd.
