MELROSE – Melrose native Amanda (Thieschafer) Smock is still getting used to the idea that she’s an Olympian.

Smock qualified for the London games two weeks ago when she finished first in the Triple Jump at the U.S. Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

Smock says her mom, brother, and husband will travel with her to London.

She will leave for England next Wednesday, and compete in a couple of meets there prior to the games.  The preliminary rounds  for the Olympics Triple Jump are on August 3rd, if she qualifies for the finals, they’ll be held on August 5th.

Smock is going to be in Melrose this weekend for their city celebration.  She’s going to sign autographs at the Credit Union from 11:00 a.m. until noon, and then will be riding in the parade.
