In this world of social media, there are rules.  I feel like everyone basically knows these rules... but how did you figure it out?  Just by what bugs you?  Did you realize what they were by other people pointing out the issues?  I mean, these "rules" are sort of unwritten rules.  But, that being said...they are basic rules that we all sort of abide by.

Here are a few of the highlights....

For all social networks

  1. Share several times a day, but space out your posts every few hours.

  2. Respond to all comments as quickly as you can.

  3. Know the art of the hashtag. 1 hashtag is fine. 10 hashtags are not.

  4. Always keep the 80/20 rule! Entertain and inform your audience first, sell to them second.

  5. Use first person plural when talking about your company brand (We, Us).

These are your basic rules.  But there are also rules for each social media outlet that are just specific to that particular thing.

The biggest one for Facebook I have noticed is "don't like your own post".  You posted it, so obviously you like it, right?  I only see that occasionally... but still.  Why??

What is your social network pet peeve?
