St. Cloud Man Arrested For Allegedly Fleeing Crash Scene
ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud man was arrested for allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash.
The incident happened at about 7:30 Sunday morning in the 1100 Block of 7th Street South.
A witness told dispatch the driver had left the scene and was running toward Lake George.
When officers arrived they found a small sedan had lost control traveling west on 7th Street, struck a tree and a telephone pole.
Police found a passenger, 21-year-old Paris Morman, injured inside the vehicle. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
A short time later police were able to find the driver, 23-year-old Jacob Elijah of St. Cloud, trying to leave the area on foot. Police learned Elijah had taken the car from friends he was visiting without permission. He also has a revoked drivers license and showed signs of being drunk.
Police say Elijah refused consent for a blood draw, so police used a search warrant to gather a sample to determine his blood-alcohol level.
Elijah was taken to the Stearns County Jail. He faces charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal vehicular operation, leaving the scene of an accident and driving after revocation.
