Salem Clinic Provides Free Care Every Wednesday In St. Cloud
In a quiet but meaningful way, something powerful is happening on St. Cloud’s east end, and it’s centered around connection, care, and peace.
The Salem Community Outpost, located at Salem Lutheran Church, has become a place where neighbors can walk in and find help, support, and reassurance when they need it most.
IT'S MORE THAN JUST A CLINIC ON ST CLOUD'S EAST SIDE
More than just a clinic, the Outpost is a growing community hub designed to meet people where they are, and connect them with essential health and wellness resources.
At the heart of the Outpost is a walk-in clinic offering FREE medical care, along with services that support both physical and mental health.

NO NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT - JUST WALK IN
You cannot call to make an appointment. You show up, and they will take up to 10 appointments every Wednesday from 1 to 4 pm. The more people show up, the more they will be willing to extend hours to meet the community's demands. They are there to help with non-urgent needs, like colds, allergies, aches, and pains. If you feel you are having an emergency or need urgent care, you should go to the ER or call 911.

There’s no complicated sign-up process and no insurance required. It was created to be a welcoming space where people can ask questions, get checked out, and learn about healthier ways to live.
THE GREAT COLLABORATIONS HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITY
What makes the Salem Community Outpost especially unique is the collaboration behind it. The effort brings together the College of St. Benedict, CentraCare Project H.E.A.L., and the St. Cloud Police Department, all working side-by-side with Salem Lutheran Church to support individual and neighborhood wellness.
NURSING STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONALS WORKING TOGETHER
Nursing students from CSB/SJU, alongside professionals, provide health screenings, basic medical care, education, and referrals to additional community resources when needed.
For the students, it’s valuable hands-on experience. For us, it’s access to care that may otherwise feel out of reach for many.
ST CLOUD POLICE MENTAL HEALTH RESPONSE UNITY ON-SITE
The St. Cloud Police Department’s Mental Health Response Unit is also housed on site, offering a more compassionate, proactive approach to community safety.
Officers, social workers, and even a therapy dog are available to respond to crises and meet with individuals in a calm, supportive environment, which helps build trust and reduce barriers between residents and the services they so desperately need, but otherwise can't afford.
PROVIDING ADDITIONAL RESOURCES AS TIME GOES ON
Beyond medical care, the clinic plans to host a variety of additional resources, including a mobile food shelf, health workshops, fitness classes, and cooking demonstrations whenever possible. It’s a flexible space that evolves based on what the neighborhood needs most.
“The Outpost is a win for the church, for the community, and for the groups that provide services there,” said Rev. Kirsten Nelson Roenfeldt, pastor of Salem Lutheran Church.
“The neighborhood gets connected with the services and information they need, and community groups have space to do what they need.”
SALEM CLINIC OFFICE HOURS
The Salem Clinic officially opened in the fall of 2025 and is currently open Wednesdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., with plans to expand hours and services as demand grows. (NOTE: They will be closed on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve).
The name “Salem” itself reflects the mission behind the Outpost. In both Hebrew and Arabic, the word translates to 'peace' or 'wholeness,' and that’s exactly what organizers hope to bring to the community.
“Our ultimate goal is to bring peace through bodily health, wholeness, and spiritual connection,” Nelson Roenfeldt shared. She also said you do not need to be a church goer to attend. The clinic is a separate part of the church completely, and they just want people to have access to the services they want and need.
LOOKING TOWARDS THE FUTURE
Looking ahead to 2026, the Salem Community Outpost plans to expand partnerships and services even further, continuing to grow as a trusted place of care and connection on St. Cloud’s east side.
Salem Lutheran Church is located at 90 Riverside Drive in St. Cloud and has been part of the community for 140 years.
