ST. CLOUD - A major downtown St. Cloud street project is nearing completion, but it is going to take a little bit longer than originally thought. St. Cloud City Engineer Steve Foss says the 5th Avenue project was originally scheduled to be done by next Friday, the day before the big 'Takin' It To The Streets' concert.

Foss says it will be substantially finished with the pavement, sidewalks and street lights all installed, which will allow the music fest to go on.

However, they will need to come back the following week to put the finishing touches on the project. At this time Foss says they're anticipating opening 5th Avenue to traffic on Monday, September 25th.

The street has been closed for about 11 weeks, for the $1.7 million reconstruction project.

When it's done, 5th Avenue will feature new streetscaping including decorative lights, landscaping, and new spaces for restaurants along that two block stretch to offer outdoor seating.
