Did You Know That Minnesota Has The Longest Stretch of These Houses?
Do you ever just drive through a neighborhood and look at the houses in that neighborhood and think "wow, I wonder what that looks like inside". I tend to do that whenever I drive through an area with older homes. Not just old homes that aren't anything special. I mean older homes that look like they probably have all sorts of nooks and niches and unique decor that is part of the home.
GORGEOUS ARCHITECTURE
Victorian homes seem to be that for many people. They all look like they have great woodwork, gorgeous staircases, high ceilings, and other Victorian-era decor. They give the feel of looking like you should be walking around with a top hat, cane, parasol, elaborate dresses and high button shoes.
Most of the time when people think of Victorian Homes you probably think of New England for most of them. It just seems like that is the type of home you would find there. Crazy thing is that the longest stretch of Victorian-era homes in the entire country is right here in Minnesota.
ST PAUL MINNESOTA
If you are familiar with St. Paul, you know that one of the most famous streets is Summit Avenue.
Summit Avenue is where the Governor's Mansion is located, and it is also home to so many Victorian-era houses. It's really cool to drive down that street and see rows of houses that have kept that look and feel of going back in time.
My mom grew up just a few blocks off of Summit, so when we would go to visit other family members, we would drive through there and it always interested me. I didn't realize that there were more of those types of houses there than anywhere else in the United States.
Summit Avenue is a veritable time capsule, stretching for miles and brimming with architectural splendor that will leave you slack-jawed and snapping photos like you’re the paparazzi. As you walk along this iconic street, you’ll find yourself marveling at the grandeur of homes that date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
WORTH A DRIVE THROUGH
