Gretchen needs a new home and family and maybe you need a new friend.  Check out Gretchen, this weeks adoptable pet.

Meet Gretchen! This sweet girl came to TCHS as a transfer from another facility. Was adopted and returned a few weeks later due to being protective when unknown people come into the house

She will need a dog-savvy adopter and continued socialization to improve this behavior. Gretchen has been friendly and responsive to shelter staff, but we are unable to assess exactly how she will react to strangers in her new home.

Because of this, it would be ideal that she go to a home without small children, who may not understand her behavior. She has lived with other dogs and seemed to be calm and relaxed with them, but we don't know if she's met cats.

Slow and proper introductions to resident pets and new family members are encouraged. Gretchen is very treat-motivated and is good at taking it from hands gently. She is a smart girl and already knows how to sit, stay, shake, and lay down! She also lets you know when she needs to go potty by putting her paw on you to ask to go out.

She would flourish with more consistent positive reinforcement training to build confidence and bond with her new family. Ask a staff member about discounts on GoodPup dog training! Gretchen is crate trained but has also had free access to the home when her people were out.

She is an independent girl, so spending some time alone doesn't bother her. Gretchen is happy to cuddle on the couch or go for a long walk. She is the perfect mix of hiking buddy and couch potato! She can get anxious in cars. Gretchen currently weighs 46 pounds. Come meet this sweet girl today!

Donations and adoption fees help cover the cost of spay/neuter surgeries, micro-chipping, vaccinating, de-worming, any medical procedures and general care.
