Cathedral High School

Earlier this week Emmett Keenan and Julie Murphy each received promotions at St. Cloud Catholic Community Schools and Cathedral High School. Keenan joined me on WJON to talk about his new title, which will take hold starting July 1.

Cathedral High School held their graduation ceremony last Friday and the rest of the students finish up the school year Thursday. Cathedral Activities Director Emmett Keenan joined me on WJON today.

Cathedral High School and Middle School has had international students in the past and will be introducing 8 new international students this coming fall. Christina Oliver is the Director of International Programs at Cathedral. She says the students range from Madrid, Spain, Minorca, Norway and 3 students from Korea.

Cathedral health teacher and longtime driver instructor Bob Bjornstad has retired from his driver's instructor responsibilities after 39 years in that role. Bob joined me on WJON today. His last behind the wheel training was done with Cathedral sophomore Clara Schad (pictured above) last Friday.

The Cathedral boys hockey team closed their season at Mariucci Arena today with a 3-2 win over Mankato West to capture the Class A consolation championship. Michael Spethmann scored the game-winning goal at the 15:44 mark to break the 2-all tie. Logan Neu got the assist.

The Cathedral Crusader boys hockey team fell to the St. Paul Academy Spartans 4-2 Wednesday night at Xcel Energy Center in the Class A Boys Hockey State Tournament Quarterfinals.

The St. Cloud Cathedral vs. St. Paul Academy hockey game will be broadcasted live by Dave Overlund and Eric Johnson on AM 1240 WJON Wednesday night at 8:20. The winner of the game will face the winner of Hermantown and Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato.

Wednesday's game can be heard on AM 1240 WJON with pregame coverage beginning 20 minutes before puck drop. Dave Overlund and Eric Johnson will have the call from downtown St. Paul.

Cathedral played at East Grand Forks on January 3rd, falling by a final score of 3-1.
