As kids head back to school, a local pediatrician shares key vaccination tips every parent should keep in mind for a healthy start.

Measles has made a resurgence in some locations in the United States. Dr. David Smith from Sartell Pediatrics joined me on WJON. He is concerned that measles could impact unvaccinated Central Minnesota residents in the near future.

Back to School items are everywhere in local stores and the calendar says we're in August. Many college students will be heading back to school in the next couple of weeks with kindergarten - 12th graders soon to follow.

It is back to school time and a child's health readiness is another item on the checklist for parents. Dr. David Smith from Sartell Pediatrics joined me on WJON. He says sports physicals are something they are doing right now with fall sports beginning. Smith says going into 7th grade they talk with parents about meningitis and HPV vaccines.

This week on WJON's Health Matters program I talked with Dr. David Smith from Sartell Pediatrics. Our topic discussion this week was vaccines. He says the whole world is working on finding and testing a vaccine for Covid-19. Dr. Smith says because trials are happening now if everything goes as well as possible a vaccine could be available for some people in the United States by November.
