Janis Joplin

Janis Joplin is one of the first -- if not the first -- female artists to break the "girl singer" mold which pretty much existed in both folk and pop music of the 60's.

The Joplin stamp will be followed by those honoring John Lennon, Jim Morrison, Roy Orbison and others.

Classic rockers will continue to be featured on American stamps. Today (Feb. 21), it was learned that we can expect to see names such as John Lennon and Janis Joplin adorning letters over the next few years.

The rock scene in 1967 was huge in Los Angeles and one band that was a big part of that was The Turtles.
