ST. CLOUD -- You won't find a shortage of things to see and do around central Minnesota this weekend. Watch high school and middle school students competed in the State Vex Robotic championship, check out an Irish band Goitse at the Paramount Theatre, groove to the 70s at Pioneer Place, take the kids to a movie at Marcus Theatres, and catch a great hockey game with the St. Cloud Noresmen. Read more in The Weekender!

    Vex Robotics State Championships

    St. Cloud

    Over 1,100 high school and middle school students across the state will be in downtown St. Cloud for the VEX Robotics State Championship. This tournament judges the teams’ ability to program, drive, and control robots to perform certain tasks that are outlaid at the beginning of every season. Several central Minnesota teams will be competing including from Sauk Rapids-Rice, Cold Spring, Sartell, and Kimball. The Minnesota VEX Robotics Tournament runs Thursday through Friday at the River's Edge Convention Center. Spectator participation this year will be limited, however, you will be able to livestream events.

    Goitse

    St. Cloud

    The popular and multi-award-winning quintet Goitse will be in St. Cloud this weekend. The Ireland group has become a leader of the new generation of traditional Irish ensembles. Their distinctive sound lies in the quality of their own compositions interspersed with traditional tunes from the countryside of Ireland and abroad, which make each performance unique. Tickets for the show are just $10 for students and $22 for adults. Showtime begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre.

    70s Magic Sunshine Band

    St. Cloud

    The 70s come back to downtown St. Cloud this weekend. Pioneer Place Theatre is holding the show The 70s Magic Sunshine Band. Enjoy the best of the 70’s either on your feet or in a seat! The theatre has turned the front of the stage into a dance floor for general admission audiences. Tickets are $26 and the dancing begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

    Kids Dream Family Film Series

    Waite Park

    Get the family out of the house and check out a movie on the big screen. Marcus Theatre's Kids Dream Family Film series continues this weekend. This weeks featured film is Clifford the Big Red Dog - which was released in November. Tickets are just $3 and showtimes will vary starting this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

    Norsemen Hockey

    St. Cloud

    Check out some great hockey action being played in St. Cloud this weekend. The St. Cloud Norsemen have three home games as they get closer to wrapping up the regular season. St. Cloud has won 13 of the last 14 games, climbing to a five-point lead for first place in the Central Division. The Norsemen open up with a two game series against the Aberdeen Wings and then a single game matchup against the Janesville Jets all at the MAC. Tickets are just $10 for each game.
