This Is The Most Terrifying Sound You Can Hear Home Alone
This is the time of year when if you are heading out into the woods or you live out in the country, you might hear terrifying sounds at night. Every year about this time, I see social media posts on community pages asking about this same terrifying scream. While the sound itself is enough to scare the most seasoned individual, Minnesotans shouldn't worry.
The piercing screams come after dark, around 8-9pm and we will hear them until the early hours of the night, seemingly coming from somewhere off in the woods behind our house. Before I knew what was causing these sounds it was unnerving, hearing that sound, and not knowing what was going on, out in the snow, enveloped in the cold and darkness.

Thankfully it didn't take long for me to figure out what was causing all that awful noise. Right now both fox and coyotes are currently entering their mating season, and those piercing screams you might be hearing are the foxes, letting others know that.
Both coyotes and foxes will be more vocal during this time of year, and in some cases, they can be more aggressive as well, but wouldn't you if you had all that testosterone flowing through you?
The good news is that this screaming that you are possibly hearing won't last forever, but chances are it might last a few more weeks, and mating season for both foxes and coyotes runs through the end of Feb and into March.
If you've got more questions about what to do with foxes or coyotes in your area, you can reach out to the Minnesota DNR, or a pest control company. Or if you are like my family, we just suck it up for a few weeks, knowing that come spring time we might see some fox pups running around.
