Ocean cruises are so popular, and a great way to see some of the world's best scenery. I've heard from so many people who've been on a cruise and they love it. That is a dream getaway for tons of people. And they likely call me nuts for not wanting to ever go on one.

Maybe it's the story of the Titanic or the number of shipwrecks, but you won't ever catch me on a cruise. Second to airplanes to get to your destination, a cruise is my least-liked form of vacationing, and here's my list as to why:

  1. For some reason, disease in the form of norovirus is not an uncommon occurrence on cruise ships. There's nothing worse than being stuck on a ship for a week with the pukes and the runs.
  2. Pirates. Sure, this generally happens around the Indian Ocean and Third World countries, but I'm not willing to take that chance with no land anywhere near.
  3. Thousands of people on a vessel, miles out at sea, with 100 feet of water below us -- what could go wrong? The ocean is awesome, but even a ship that big is no match for that much water if severe weather makes a visit.
  4. Fires. The opposite of water is fire. Even with more than enough water surrounding you, a fire will engulf a cruise ship. Enough said. A fire recently disabled a cruise ship in St. Thomas. See the story here.
  5. There's a chance a crazy person is on board, and I promise they'll come out at some point. I know there's plenty of security, but I'd rather not be in such a confined space with that many possible nut jobs.

So there it is -- my list of why I'm never going on a cruise. If you'd like to be scared even more, see this article about the worst cruise ship disasters.
