If you were to guess which state has the best "well being", I bet you would guess right. Gallup revealed their 11th annual ranking of the states with the best "well being" scores and #1...to no one's surprise...is Hawaii. Why wouldn't the only state that is an island paradise be #1?

Here's what "well being" scores are based on.

  1. Physical Health
  2. Community. How much people like their community
  3. Social: Quality of their relationships and friendships
  4. Career: How much they like their jobs
  5. Financial security

What might be surprising is some of the states that are in the top 10.

  1. Hawaii
  2. Wyoming
  3. Alaska
  4. Montana
  5. Utah
  6. Colorado
  7. Vermont
  8. Delaware
  9. South Dakota
  10. North Dakota

Minnesota came in 12th overall. I thought we would be higher. We came in 12th in Career, 8th in Financial, 8th in Community, 20th in Health and 32 in Social. Apparently we need to work on our relationships with our family and friends.

Not surprising are some of the states in the bottom 10.

  • 48. Kentucky
  • 47. Mississippi
  • 46. Tennessee
  • 45. Oklahoma
