They discuss stories and real-life accounts of battles fought by the Minnesota 9th Infantry in the Civil War and in particular, the role of G Company, referred to as the “Chippewa Company,” and the role they played in the Civil War. They will discuss the discharge from the Union Army at the end of the Civil War and what became of the soldiers of G Company.

Andrew said, 'The purpose of the Civil War Round Table around the country is to promote and expand interest in the study of the military, political, and sociological aspects of the American Civil War.'

The group covers various aspects of the Civil War, as well as at least one program a year devoted to the relationship with The Dakotah Conflict, which is intertwined with Minnesota history and the Civil War, as many of the groups that were a part of the Civil War also fought in The Dakota Conflict of 1862.

The Civil War is not just about battles but also about the human aspects of the war, and this particular program will be about the Ojibwe. November it will be about one of the companies from Monticello, and in December there will be a discussion about a Civil War Museum up in Battle Lake.

Anyone who loves history and has an interest in learning about the Civil War can come to these monthly meetings.

Each event typically involves a short discussion of things that are happening or books they've read or events that are coming up. That is followed by a discussion or presentation and then time for follow-up questions and answers.

WHITNEY SENIOR CENTER - NEW LOCATION

The events will be held at Whitney so guests can stay as long as they want after the presentation is over to discuss further.

If you are interested in coming to a meeting, the first one is free, and then you can decide if you would like to become a member of the group.
