MAILBOX IMPROVEMENT WEEK?

I didn't realize that the third week of May is 'Mailbox Improvement Week' each year. So this may be a bit too late to be talking about; but actually, the request is something you should be thinking about.

Mailbox Improvement Week is when you are encouraged to check out your mailbox for:

  • Loose hinges
  • Loose mailbox door
  • Does your mailbox need repainting?
  • Does your mailbox need to be remounted?
  • Do the house numbers on your mailbox need to be replaced?

PLEASE GET A BIGGER MAILBOX

What I found most interesting was that the USPS is encouraging those who have stand-alone curbside mailboxes to upgrade to one of the newer larger capacity boxes. You can now buy mailboxes that are wider and taller to have room for things you've ordered online. By customers getting these bigger boxes, there will be less need for extra trips and notices left at your home.

Some of the locations listed as to where you can get these bigger mailboxes include:

  • Home Depot
  • Menards
  • True Value
  • BudgetMailboxes.com
  • Lowe's
  • Walmart

KEEP ALL YOUR MAIL TOGETHER IN ONE PLACE

The USPS says this is a great way to get all of your packages delivered the first time and keep them all together in one place, plus it will protect your packages from the elements and hold the majority of your mail.

HOW MUCH ARE THE NEW LARGER MAILBOXES?

Starting pricing seems to be around the $65 range, but they can go well over $300 depending on what you need and/or want. Ironically, BudgetMailboxes.com featured a more expensive option that the others.

SIGN UP FOR FREE 'INFORMED DELIVERY'

USPS also says that you can sign up for a free Informed Delivery account to preview images of your mail and manage your incoming packages on one dashboard without having to enter tracking numbers. You can also sign up for ntofications, alerts, redeliveries, and more by going to usps.com.

For details on the proper height installation for your location, you can also find that information on the usps.com website.
