Spring. It's the time when we are supposed to look around and clean things up. It's the time for garage sales, it's a time when people go through their closets and storage areas and decide what to keep and what to donate.  It's time for de-cluttering and organizing.  It's Spring Cleaning!

I have lived in several cities/states around the midwest.  One thing that I have noticed is that once a month, other cities will allow residents to put stuff (unwanted junk) out on the curb for the city garbage collectors to come around and pick up.  This is FREE OF CHARGE! It's kind of an awesome thing to do.  Not only was it junk you may not want and would like to have hauled away, but it was also a time when other residents would come by and take what they would like instead. Scavengers. At first it was like "why are they doing that? That's horrible". On the other hand, why care?  Other people's junk would go to someone who might want it.  It's like a free garage sale, but without the hassle.  If you were just going to throw it away anyway, why not be happy for someone else who wants it?

The other great thing was that you could put anything on the curb, even electronics.  Save you a trip to one of those special places that will take your unwanted electronics.  I believe you could even put old paint cans out, and they would be disposed of properly.

I do agree that maybe once a month might be a lot to ask for a city that doesn't have this service at all, but it might be a great thing to do once a year.  Like now - during Spring Cleaning time.

Hey - Mr. Mayor - what do you think?  Should St. Cloud implement something like this?
