PWHL Secures First Full Season National TV Package For American Audiences
The PWHL knows that accessibility is key to building a fan base for Professional Women's hockey, and they have been working hard to get that job accomplished.
Recently, that goal has been met, as a television partner has agreed to be there and make the PWHL's dreams come true.
ITS COMING
The PWHL knows that a televised presence nationwide is key in helping the PWHL become a force to reckon with in the world of women's sports.
They've been looking for a partner to bring the Walter Cup Finals to fans all season long, and the request has finally been met.
The league just announced a new national television agreement with Scripps Sports for the 2026-27 season, giving the PWHL something it has never had before: a season-long national television package in the United States!
ION STEPS UP!
Coming up now in season 4, PWHL fans will be able to watch a featured PWHL “Game of the Week” every Saturday on ION.
ION is available over the air, through pay television and streaming services, and reaches more than 128 million U.S. households. The part I really like is that fans in the United States will still be able to watch every PWHL game for free through the league’s official YouTube channel and ThePWHL.com.

THE OPPORTUNITY HAS ARRIVED
That makes the league incredibly accessible to someone who might be curious about women’s professional hockey but has never watched a game before. It's great for people who aren't yet totally invested in the PWHL, but now have the opportunity to see just how exciting it is.
You don't need an expensive sports package to check it out. You don't have to hunt around for a streaming service, and you can literally go to YouTube and watch.
SCRIPPS SPORTS NETWORK CARRYING WEEKLY GAMES
The league is also adding more national exposure through Scripps Sports Network. SSN is a free, ad-supported streaming channel, which will carry two national PWHL games each week.

THE WALTER CUP FINALS
What about the Walter Cup? What about play-off games?
ION will once again be the U.S. television home of the Walter Cup Finals, after becoming the first national television home for the championship series last year.
The PWHL already has some impressive numbers behind it, but a professional sports league needs more than people showing up at the arena. It needs fans who know the players, follow the teams, and make watching the games part of their routine. The league clearly understands that when people can SEE what they are doing, the fans will come. Free television can accomplish that goal.
REACHING MILLIONS OF FANS
The PWHL's first nationally televised game in the United States happened in March, when the New York Sirens played the Montréal Victoire at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. That game was carried on ION and was available to more than 126 million U.S. households.
THE NEXT BIG STEP
Now the league is taking another big step. The PWHL will have 12 teams for the upcoming season, with Detroit, Hamilton, Las Vegas and San Jose joining the league. That means more teams, more players, more cities and, hopefully, more fans.
And if the goal is to turn women's professional hockey into a major sport in the United States, getting people to actually SEE the sport may be one of the most important pieces of the puzzle.
