ST. CLOUD -- You can fly to Florida out of the St. Cloud Regional Airport starting this fall.

Allegiant Airlines announced Tuesday they will be offering nonstop service from St. Cloud to Florida via the Punta Gorda Airport, which is near Fort Meyers.

St. Cloud Airport Director Bill Towle says they've been working on bringing back a Florida flight since service to Orlando was suspended back in 2014.

"It's been a long time, staying on their radar as they were able to get aircrafts and crew available and waiting to see if they would consider St. Cloud and it finally came to fruition."

Flights will be offered two times a week starting November 15th. Towle says he hopes this opens the doors for other destinations out of the St. Cloud airport in the near future.

"We are going to be actively working on that right away. It may take a little time, but we will see how services do and if people get on the airplane it will help us grow into the future."

Allegiant Airlines currently offers flights between St. Cloud and Mesa, Arizona.
