Buffalo Man Shot By Police After City Hall Break-in
A man from Buffalo, Minnesota, has been shot and killed by police after breaking into the Lawrence, Kansas, city hall.
Various media reports claim 28-year-old Omar Gavilan of Buffalo, Minnesota was traveling through Kansas by Greyhound bus. Sunday evening, he was removed from the Kansas Turnpike Authority’s station on I-70 by police after reports of a man acting erratically.
Last Monday morning, police reports claim he broke into the Lawrence, Kansas, city hall through a locked back door, made his way to the fourth floor, broke another window, and gained access to a secure office.

An on-duty court security officer found Gavilan and attempted to arrest him. Police reports indicate Gavilan resisted arrest and started to fight with the officer when he was shot.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure in these instances. The Lawrence, Kansas Police Department’s Investigative Unit is expected to complete the investigation into the event and release their report in the next two or three weeks.
