In the beginning, it was tough to shop at Costco if you wanted to use a credit or even a debit card.  I have been a member of Costco for quite a few years and the credit card thing was kind of a pain.  You used to either have cash or write out a check. And nowadays, not everyone carries around cash OR a checkbook for that matter.

COSTCO DUMPED THEIR PARTNERSHIP WITH AMEX YEARS AGO

The only card that Costco had partnered with at the time was American Express.  That was something that not a lot of people had. Plus, there isn't a debit card option with that.  I don't know about you, but I'm not someone who always wants to put everything on a credit card.

Since then. Costco ended their partnership with AmEx and started using Visa.  They have their own Citi Anywhere card.  That is a Visa, plus now you can use a Visa debit card.  Win - Win!

COSTCO HAS MADE THINGS EVEN EASIER THAN IT WAS BEFORE

Now, there has been even another change - and really, for the better. Costco has moved more into the digital age.  They have now updated their app and mobile wallet.

“The enhancements we have made include improvements to the mobile wallet, the introduction of digital membership card with quick access on the Costco app, and the rollout of our shopping cart prescan tool internationally,”

GOT THE APP?  GOT THE DIGITAL WALLET? YOU'RE ALL SET

Now, if you have your phone, with the app and/or the credit card linked to it, you will no longer need your membership card or the credit card with you to get into the warehouse or to check out.  You will just be able to use your phone for entry and payment.  Voila!  Costco just moved into the new digital age!  Now, if they could just implement the "scan and go" feature like the competitor does, that would be perfect.  That is the biggest complaint I have heard regarding Costco vs Sam's Club.  "If Costco had Scan and Go I'd switich in a heartbeat".  For me, it's about convenience.  Costco is much closer to my home than Sam's Club is.  And really, basically it's the same stuff.
