In a time when everyday living costs seem to be rising faster than our incomes, most of us are looking for ways to stretch every dollar just a little bit further.

Raises don’t seem to keep pace with the cost of groceries, gas, or utilities, and the idea of replacing something like an appliance, a broken phone, computer,  even a pair of shoes or boots can feel overwhelming.

WHY TOSS AWAY ITEMS THAT JUST NEED A LITTLE TUNE-UP?

Have you ever stopped to consider how many items we toss out that could still be useful with just a small repair? Curling irons, blow dryers, phones, radios, jeans...socks...the list is endless!

These Fix-It events don’t just help you save money; they help keep your belongings working longer and out of local landfills. Doesn't that sound like a better solution?

PLAYING THE WAITING GAME

Those rising expenses have definitely lowered our purchasing power. I know for me personally, I’m waiting longer than I normally would before replacing things like large appliances, furniture, computers, phones, clothes, shoes, and even vehicles.

When life starts getting difficult, and everything costs more, you start asking a different question: Can these items be fixed, mended, or repaired instead? How many more years of value could these items provide my family, and how much money could that be putting back in my pocket?

That’s exactly where a program like this comes in handy. If you’ve got power tools, clothing, boots, and shoes, or small household items that just need a little attention, these clinics can save you real money and help you stretch your budget a bit further.

'FIX-IT' CLINICS

The Stearns History Museum will be hosting two separate Fix-It Clinics. The first will be on Friday, March 20th, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Rocori Senior Center.

Another clinic is scheduled for Friday, May 29th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Handyman’s Hardware in St. Cloud.

FREE CLINICS

These 'Fix-It Clinics' are free events, hosted in part with 'Reuse Minnesota', giving you a unique opportunity to have textiles and small household items mended or repaired by skilled volunteers.

NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED

No registration is required. It’s first-come, first-served, and each household can bring up to two items to be fixed, mended, or repaired.

So how is this possible? Talented volunteers with sewing, mending, and general repair skills donate their time to help others in the community. Now that's a Minnesota Nice thing to do! Share your talents with others in need.

It’s a simple idea that can make a big impact, helping you save money, reducing waste, and helping neighbors help each other.

TALENTED VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED

Maybe everything you own is already in great shape because you’re the handy one in your family. If that sounds like you, this could be a great opportunity for YOU to share your skills and help someone else. Whether you’re good with tools, electronics, or sewing, your knowledge could make a real difference.

HOW TO VOLUNTEER

If you’d like to volunteer at future Fix-It events, you can fill out a volunteer form or learn more at reusemn.org.

Sometimes the best way to save money isn’t buying something new...it’s fixing what you already have.
