Ford Motor Company announced a recall of over 260,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks in the U.S and Canada because the tailgates can open unexpectedly.

According to the Associated Press:

"The recall covers all F-250, F-350 and F-450 trucks from 2017 through 2019 models years. All the trucks have electric tailgate latch release switches in the tailgate handle."

The report from the Associated Press also indicated that Ford said water can get into the electrical wiring and cause a short circuit, activating the switches and releasing the latches, which could allow loose cargo to fall onto the road.

According to the report, Ford Motor Company said it has no reports of crashes or injuries, and the trucks with mechanical tailgate latches are not affected. The reports also said that dealers will fix the tailgate frame wiring harnesses and install a new tailgate handle release switch, and owners will be notified by mail during the week of January 20th.
