The former guitarist for the Allman Brothers has died. 

Fans of the Allman Brothers are mourning the death of former guitar player Dan Toler. His Facebook page says that he died in his sleep Monday morning. Dan was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, also known as ALS since 2011 and had been battling hard against the disease ever since.

The Allman Brothers added Dan to their lineup in 1978 after Dan had played with Dickey Betts in the late 70’s, He played with them until they broke up in 1982, but remained friends with Gregg Allman and even played on I’m No Angel and Just Before the Bullets Fly before heading out on a jazz career.

Dan Toler was 65.
