The drummer for one of the hardest working rock bands in all of history has died.

The former drummer for Iron Maiden has died.

Iron Maiden reported the sad news on their website late yesterday saying that Clive Burr has passed away “peacefully in his sleep at home” after a battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

If you have any of Iron Maiden’s first three albums: Iron Maiden, Killers or Number of the Beast, that’s Clive bashing away on the drums. Before joining Iron Maiden, he drummed for the group Samson - where he went by the name Thunderstick - and that was where he met Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson.

Bruce called him "a great guy and a man who really lived his life to the full." Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris called Clive "an amazing drummer who made a valuable contribution to Maiden in the early days.”

Clive was 56.
