Are This Bake Shop's Cocoa Mint Cookies A Thin Mints Rival?

It happens every year about this time. The talk around the office is all about those devilishly delicious Girl Scout Cookies.

Could this local convenience store be gunning for a piece of that delicious Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie action?

ARE MINT COOKIES IN SEASON THIS TIME OF YEAR?

I recently stopped by Kwik Trip on my way home from work. It's hard to believe that I can buy two loaves of bread on a Monday and be totally out of bread by Wednesday evening. Regardless, whenever I visit a convenience store, it's a little bit longer than a quick stop, because I'm always looking for the deals they might have around the store.

A NEW COOKIE OFFERING WAS STARING BACK AT ME

On this particular day, I saw a new cookie offering on the sale table next to me while getting ready to check out. A box of 12 sweet, delicious-looking chocolate cookies with greenish chips in them, that said, "The Kwikery Bake Shop Cocoa Mint Cookies."

That was something I never expected to see. Mint cookies? Honestly, if the Girl Scouts didn't sell their addictive once-a-year Thin Mints, I don't think I'd ever make a trip to the grocery store and look for mint cookies, no matter how delicious they may be.

IS THIS GOING TO BE A LITTLE MINT-FRIENDLY COMPETITION?

So it got me thinking about a few things. Girl Scout sales are going to kick off sometime in February. That means that this is the time of year I truly DO buy mint cookies, because when the Girl Scouts come around, I never tell them no. I at least go home with one box of cookies. AND! If it's going to be just one box, you can bet it will be the Thin Mints.

IS THIS ALL JUST COINCIDENTAL?

SO is it just coincidental that the Cocoa Mint Cookies are hitting the shelves in January? Possibly. Maybe it's got nothing to do with those little round GS cookies of joy, but on the other hand, I can get 12 pretty good-sized cookies at Kwik Trip for about $5.

HOW MUCH WILL GIRL SCOUT COOKIES COST THIS YEAR?

How much are those boxes of Girl Scout cookies again? If you buy them online, they are $6.00 a box, plus shipping. A box of Thin Mints cookies has 32 cookies. Four cookies equal one serving at 160 calories. Kwik Trips Cocoa Mint cookies are 1 cookie per serving, 12 in a box, and 200 calories each.

If mint is your thing, the prices are actually pretty comparable. So I guess it comes down to this. Do you buy your Girl Scout cookies because you want to help the Girl Scouts or because you love the cookies?

WHAT WILL YOU DO WHEN THE GIRL SCOUTS COME A-CALLIN'?

If you can't live without the Thin Mint cookies, then the Girl Scouts are happy to serve you your favorite once-a-year delight. If not, maybe you can save a buck and get your chocolaty minty fix ahead of the Girl Scout cookie season.

In my case, I will definitely be trying BOTH. I WAS a Girl Scout, and that forever will obligate me to purchase cookies from those girls who are learning how to put themselves out there, whether we break their hearts by telling them NO...or build their confidence by telling them YES...and maybe taking it a bit further, and asking them, "What is YOUR favorite cookie?" or, "Hmmmm.....If you were me, what kind of cookie would you get?"

It's not an easy task for any kid to approach adults. As far as Kwik Trip goes...they constantly feed my sweet cravings, so if this cookie is as good as it looks, you just might find me back in line after the Girl Scout cookie sales are over for the year.

Will the Kwik Trip Cocoa Mint cookies still be on the shelves in April? I guess we shall see.
