Hidden FREE Museum in a Northern Minnesota Park
It's kind of like a treasure hunt. You know it's there... somewhere, but you have to look a bit.
If you are someone who is interested in some of the geological aspects of Minnesota, this is for you. Head of Moose Lake State Park, which is suprisingly near the town of Moose Lake. If you are wondering where Moose Lake is, it's located just south of Duluth. Moose Lake State Park is one of the smaller state parks but it still has plenty to offer, especially if you are into agates and other rocks that are part of the make up of Minnesota.
Yes, if you want to enter the park either on foot or driving into the park area, you will need to pay for a permit, like any other state park. But the visitor center is free, and there is a giant collection of geological items to see.
If and when you decide to head to Moose Lake State Park, make sure to stop into th visitor center, or the Moose Lake Agate and Geological Center.
I love it when people find very unique agates, they polish them and make some fun pieces that can be displayed. If you stop into the center, you will be able to see so many unique and interesting items. Most or all of the items are very unique to Minnesota. Great time for an educational and fun little "field trip". And then you also have the state park with a lot of trails that are perfect for hiking.
