We've all been to one of those parties. You know, the kind where you just say to yourself "Okay, time to go" after only 15, 20 minutes.

It's that time of year for holiday parties. So, what can you do to avoid throwing a crappy party?  A party that makes people want to hang around?   Here are a few pointers to make your next party, one worth staying at.

As guests arrive, you need to offer them a drink within the first 8 minutes. I guess, get them liquored up a bit makes them more comfortable. Also, talk to your guests within the first 8 minutes, which will make them feel included.

Get those snacks out within the first 10 minutes. If they are eating they are not just standing there with their thumb up their butt.

Well, you'd think that would be enough but your work has just begun. Be sure to offer a drink refill within 20 minutes after they are served the first one. Keep 'em coming.

Don't talk about politics or money.  instead talk about TV shows, movies or food. I'm pretty bad at small talk. I generally just make stuff up. You know, outrageous stuff. I once had someone believing that I used to be a stuntman in porno movies. I wonder how many other people he told.

Finally, don't make your guests take their shoes off. I actually have picked up some pretty nice shoes from the pile at the door. If you recognize the shoes of someone you don't like. Just take one and throw it in the bushes outside.

Hope this helps with your next party, and yes, I realize after this article, I'm probably not invited.
