If you or someone you know has a disability, you know all too well how they are viewed by the general public. If it’s not people stopping and staring, it’s people who think because you have a disability, you can’t do anything for yourself or have any special skills or talents.

Those who face daily challenges beyond their control don’t get the same consideration or opportunities as most other people. Especially when it comes to being creative or artistic.

That’s what led to a non-profit that features artwork for those with disabilities only. “The Show” was created 11 years ago, after a Minnesota artist who has disabilities created some Christmas Cards and had no place to properly sell them and they had to be bought in a back alley from the trunk of a car with the help of a social worker.

Fox 9 TV reported this week that “The Show” promotes diversity and has an overall mission of giving artists of all skill levels a place to feature and sell their creations. The works of art have been featured in art fairs, and the walls of local restaurants who are supporting the cause.

Galleries are now featuring the works of artists with disabilities more prominently than ever before according to the report on Fox 9.

Now “The Show” is opening an online marketplace to feature these works. The website comes after a Minnesota inclusion grant was given to the organization.

Not only is the marketplace designed exclusively for artists with disabilities, but there is also training on how to present the art on the marketplace and how to price it as well.

No commissions are given to those who help with The Show marketplace, the deals are between the buyer and seller with no one in the middle.

Legendary actor and comedian Bill Murray selected a few pieces that were featured at a recent art show as his picks for the “Choice Award”.

Hopefully opening the marketplace will create more opportunities for a broader sales landscape for the artists and more people with disabilities will see there is a community that will embrace their creative talents and visions.
