There is usually a mass amount of people who love to get out of the cold of Minnesota during the winter.  One of the most popular vacations is a nice caribbean cruise.  The great thing about a cruise is that you get to see a lof of different places during your cruise.  That bad thing is that you are only at each place for a few hours, watching your clock and making sure you board the ship again before they take off without you.

SO MANY NEWS STORIES ABOUT PASSENGERS GETTING SICK

There have been many stories about how clean, or the lack of cleanliness cruise ships have been.  People getting sick and infecting the entire group of passengers on the cruise.  Or maybe you watched the Netflix special "Disaster, the poop cruise".  That was horrendous.  Or some freak accidents like the one a couple of years ago where the cruise ship tipped on it's side right off the coast of Italy.  That one has also been made into a documentary.  Disturbing.

HOW CLEAN IS THE CRUISE SHIP YOU ARE CRUISING ON

Because of these things, if you book a cruise it might be in the back of your mind "how clean is this ship"?

Apparently the CDC has a Vessel Sanitation Program.  Who knew?  Here's what they look for according to Only in Your State:

  • Each ship gets a score out of 100. A score of 85 or higher is considered passing; scores below that should be watched. The VSP website also has other helpful info, like:
  •

Scores for specific ships: See how your ship or line has done over time.

  •

Outbreak information: If a ship experiences a stomach bug outbreak, you can view the details and see how many passengers were affected.

  •

Healthy cruising tips: Quick reminders for handwashing, staying hydrated, and what to do if you feel ill onboard.

DOES THIS MAKE YOU FEEL ANY BETTER

So, if all of this has been cleared, you should feel ok about cruising!  Right?  To be perfectly honest, I feel a little odd about being with a big bunch of people that you don't know for that long of a time stuck on the same vessel.  But that's just me.

The cruise I went on was WAY before the pandemic, and every time you went into another room, or a restaurant, or whatever it was, there was a monitor there making sure everyone used hand sanitizer before entering the area.  So there's that.
