Winter is coming... and this year will NOT be like last year. That is according to the meteorologists who say that last year was a La Nina year. That is what produced the "warmest winter on record".  This year is predicted to be much more of a "normal" Minnesota winter.  Cold and snowy.

But, if you are into the snow sculpture business, that is exactly the kind of weather you want.  You need snow to make the sculpture, and you need the cold to keep it that way.

There are some infamous and intricate snow sculptures that are carved out every year by a family in New Brighton.  They have made some pretty amazing snow sculptures over the last few years.  They even have a website now.  And on the website they outline how the snow sculptures began, it was the year 2012, and their first one was a giant puffer fish.  It was awesome!  And since then, they have gotten even better.  You can check out their gallery through the years on their website, and also on their gofundme page.

And that is what brings me to this situation.  In order to continue the tradition that the Bartz family has be doing with their sculptures, they need some help.  They have put together a gofundme page.  Their goal is $25,000.  So far, when I checked it today, they had just over $2600.  They do say that if they do not reach their goal, and they are unable to sculpt this year, the money that has been donated will go to World Vision for Clean Water.

This is one of the cooler things that happens in the area in the Wintertime. It's just a fun thing to see, and it's what winter is all about.  Being able to do fun things like this that you really can't do in warmer climates.  So, hopefully they will be able to continue that tradition.
