Minnesota Pilot Program Vaccinates Nearly 11,500 So Far
Governor Walz announced last week the new pilot program set up in 9 Minnesota cities. Yesterday, state official s have announced that 11.488 people used the pilot program to get vaccinated since the pilot locations opened on Thursday.
Certain target demographics were vaccinated. Those 65 and older, child care workers and educators. A spokesman for Governor Walz stated that no vaccine doses went to waste among the vials opened at the pilot centers.
"Along with other vaccination efforts underway across Minnesota, we are well on our way to reaching the goal of vaccinating most Minnesotans," he said in a statement.
However, he stated "Minnesota continues to face a crippling vaccine supply shortage" as the state also concentrates on getting health care workers and people that reside in long term care vaccinated during Minnesota's Phase 1A of the vaccine rollout.
Of the 9 pilot program centers, 6000 doses were reserved for those 65 and older and another 6000 doses for school workers and child care workers. The sign up starting at noon last Thursday, at the 9 pilot program locations. All slots for 65 and older were taken in less than 24 hours.
According to the Dept of Health, 311,600 Minnesotans had received the first dose of the COVID vaccine and the 2 shot series had been completed by 63,185 Minnesotans, as of Thursday.
Minnesota has administered a little over 46% of all doses shipped to the state, so far.
