Hungry Minnesota Students Have Access To Food This Summer
It’s well documented that kids love summertime. There are many reasons they enjoy the warmer months of the year, combining all the swimming, and playing outside with the fact there’s no school; to a kid that is the closest thing to heaven.

Summer Has Its Drawbacks for Some Students!
But for some kids, being out of school is a disadvantage from the standpoint that they don’t have access to a consistent food supply. For some, they’re able to eat breakfast and lunch at school not knowing if there will be anything for dinner when they get home.
The Minnesota Department of Education is trying to help bridge the gap for some students who don’t have regular food options over the summer.
The Department of Education is supporting 185 sites around Minnesota this summer that will provide food for students in need. The program is called Sun Meals and is funded by the US Department of Agriculture and the Department of Education in Minnesota will administer the food.
Which Students Qualify?
For a child to qualify for this program, they have to be under the age of 18. Those that are over 18 but are mentally or physically disabled who participate in other school programs will also qualify for the food assistance this summer.
There are many locations around Central Minnesota that will be serving food to these students this summer; you can find the location closest to you by clicking here.
Another way to get information on this program is to call the Minnesota Food Helpline at 1-888-711-1151 Monday-Friday from 10am-5pm.
