There are a lot of things that most of us take for granted. We’re so fortunate to live in a country that even with all its struggles is still better than most places around the world.

Some the basics of life we take for granted, like water. There are strict guidelines in place that make sure most of the time our water is safe for us to enjoy.

But that’s not the case for everyone, and that’s why there’s an event happening in Minneapolis this weekend you might want to support; “Walk for Water”.

Water Mission is a Christian Engineering non-profit organization that helps provide safe, sustainable water systems in under privileged areas around the world.

I spoke with Greg Dinino of Water Mission and Aubrey Mozer of GF Building Flow Solutions last week about the Walk for Water. Greg told me that 1 in 4 people around the world do not have access to safe water. The duty of gathering water mainly falls on women and children who have to walk up to three miles one way to a water source each day.

There’s a challenge with the water being safe and water born illnesses are common. Then there’s the safety issue of things happening to the women and children on the route to get the water.

Water Mission also works with the community leaders in these areas to help them provide and care for the water in their area. Some of the products used in these projects are made at GF Building Flow Solutions, which means their employees are deeply invested in this partnership.

Aubrey says that GF Building Flow Solutions manufactures the piping that moves water, and they were happy to partner with Water Mission. She says that we’re so blessed with plenty of water here in Minnesota, that the event Saturday is a great chance to learn about the issues these communities are facing.

Clean, safe water is instrumental for the basic essentials like cooking and cleaning, and not having that as an option really can bring a laundry list of dangers to an area.

Each participant in the “Walk for Water” will be given an empty bucket, and they’ll walk about a mile and a half, then fill up the bucket and walk back to just a small idea of what everyday lives are for some people.

“Walk for Water” is great for families to teach children about giving back and teaching them about the advantages we have here.

This isn’t an event that you need to fundraise for, but they do want to point out that a $50 donation provides water for a person for a year.

Here is the link to learn more about the event and how you can get involved.
