When I was a teenager, I spent almost all of my time outside of class being engaged in band related activities. I played the tenor saxophone, so naturally a lot of the events I attended were geared towards jazz music.

Jazz is one of those styles that you either get or you don’t. To be honest, I don’t really enjoy listening to it, but it’s a lot of fun to play. Having to work up jazz pieces growing up definitely gave me an appreciation for this forgotten genre, and I still look for jazz related concerts to check out on occasion.

That’s why I’m pretty excited for the Monday Night Jazz edition of Music In The Gardens. Monday Night Jazz is a group of musicians from central Minnesota who presents a wide variety of jazz, from old chestnuts, through swing and bebop, to R&B flavored pop.

They’re a cool group. They’re doing two performances at Munsinger Clemens Gardens this month. One on June 10th and the other on June 24th. Both performances start at 3 pm and admission is free.
