Olympics Will Probably Be Postponed

Finally, after a lot of speculation, it seems very likely that the Summer Olympics will be postponed.  Even though there is hope that the COVID-19 coronavirus will be contained by the time the Olympics would take place, the concern is that the athletes won't be ready.  The training options are very limited and by the time they are able to train to be "Olympic ready" there wouldn't be enough time.

This decision is prompted by Canada bailing out, according to an article in the Washington Post...

Facing mounting pressure and growing criticism, Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, wrote a letter to Olympic athletes Sunday in which he said canceling the Summer Games altogether is not an option and vowed that a final decision on postponement would be made within the next four weeks.

The message prompted a strong backlash Sunday night when the Canadian Olympic Committee said it would not send its athletes to compete in Tokyo this summer, the strongest statement to date against the IOC’s preference to stick to its schedule.

And it's probable that other countries would do the same.  There have been 3 other times when the Olympics have been cancelled.  1916, 1940 and 1944.  These were all because of World Wars.
