It's been a minute since we were talking about COVID vaccinations and whether or not you should be vaccinated.  During 2020, and a bit after that, some employers were requiring their employees to be vaccinated, especially if you were working in either healthcare or at least in the building that provides healthcare.

MAYO CLINIC EMPLOYEE OPPOSED BEING VACCINATED BECAUSE OF HIS BELIEFS

An employee at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, who worked as a security guard, was asked - required to get the COVID vaccination.  He stated that he would be tested daily, and would be willing to wear a mask, but did not want to get the vaccination because of religious reasons.  He stated that his faith - Pentecostal, via Assembly of God, which he said believes in Divine Healing, and not a vaccination.

From Bring Me the News:

The employee told Mayo that he belongs to the Assemblies of God, which places faith in the concept of “divine healing,” and claims the vaccine contained ingredients that were against his beliefs. He offered to be tested for COVID-19 and to wear a mask.

Even though this is his belief, he felt forced to get the vaccination in order to keep his job.  The vaccination happened in 2021, and now, four years later, there was a lawsuit filed, and a settlement was made in favor of the employee.  Mayo Clinic is to pay the employee $50,000.  Here is why: Mayo’s actions violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

SETTLEMENT AWARDED AS THE EMPLOYEE'S CIVIL RIGHTS WERE VIOLATED

Statement from the Assembly of God Church regarding their doctrine:

The Assemblies of God explicitly states in its official position papers that "belief in divine healing neither opposes nor competes with medical doctors". The denomination views the knowledge and skills of medical professionals as a provision that brings help and relief to many. While divine healing is one of the four core "Cardinal Doctrines" of the Assemblies of God (USA), the church's official stance is that modern medicine and prayer work hand-in-hand.

In fact, during the height of the COVID pandemic, some Assembly of God churches served as vaccination sites for the public.

Either way, the employee is being awarded the 50K because his civil rights were violated.  Regardless of what the doctrine of Assembly of God is or isn't.
