It's that time of year again.  The 40 days leading up to Easter when many people in the St. Cloud area will be seeking out some great fish fries for Friday nights during lent.

Many people have their own favorites, and/or maybe you would like to try something new.  Every place has their own take on a great fish fry, and what makes them great.  Is it the batter?  Maybe the sides that come along with the meal, or maybe it's just the atmosphere.

Let's take a look at where some of the Friday Fish Fries will be around the St. Cloud area.

These are from most of the churches in the area that will be serving fish on Fridays during Lent.  There are several others outside of the St. Cloud area that will also have fish fries.  You can check out the full list from Central Minnesota Catholic.

Fridays, March 7, 28

St. Cloud • St. Anthony Parish hosts fish fry featuring fried pollock, baked beans, scalloped potatoes and coleslaw from 4 to 7 p.m. in the parish center. (March 28 is a Catholic United Financial matching grant event.)

Friday, March 14

St. Cloud • St. Paul Parish serves baked fish dinner with homemade cheesy hash browns, green beans, coleslaw, dinner rolls and brownies from 5 to 7 p.m.

Friday, March 21

St. Cloud • St. Katharine Drexel School hosts dine-in or drive-thru fish fry including fish, coleslaw, chips, beans and bread from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Augustine Parish. (Ice cream fundraiser for fifth grade environmental camp. Free will offering.)

Fridays, March 7, April 4

St. Joseph • Fish fry to benefit St. John the Baptist Parish (in Collegeville) is from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sal’s Bar & Grill. Menu includes fried fish, potato salad, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, dinner roll and dessert. Event includes meat raffle. Takeout available by calling Sal’s at 320-363-8273.

Friday, April 11

St. Joseph • Fish fry to benefit St. Joseph Catholic School is from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sal’s Bar & Grill. Menu includes fried fish, potato salad, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans and dinner roll. Event includes meat raffle. Takeout available by calling Sal’s at 320-363-8273.

Friday, March 14

Sartell • Knights of Columbus Council 5276 hosts fish fry at St. Francis Xavier Parish including fried fish, coleslaw, baked beans and potato chips from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the school cafeteria. Beverages and dessert sold by Boy Scouts. Takeout or dine-in.

Friday, April 11

Waite Park • St. Joseph Parish hosts dine-in or drive-thru fish fry with hand-breaded fried fish, baked beans, coleslaw, potatoes and rolls from 4 to 7 p.m. (Dessert with dine-in only.)

There are also plenty of restaurants around the St. Cloud area that will have some fish specials for Friday nights during Lent.  What's your favorite?
